Science

Learning Intention: To match physical properties of materials to their uses

In Science we have been looking at the properties of materials.

We wanted to make a new rugby jersey for the Rugby World Cup so we tested different materials to see which would keep the players warmest.  We wrapped containers with felt, cotton or silk.

Then we filled each with hot water a recorded the temperatures to see which material kept the water the warmest.

Our graph showed that the felt kept the water the warmest.

Finally we designed our jerseys.

Maths

Learning Intention: To gather whole number data. To identify patterns between data sets

In Maths we have been making paper aeroplanes

We flew them and measured how far they went to see if the length of the wings affected how far the plane flew.

We put our data onto a graph to see if there was a relationship. From the graph we could see that the shorter the wingspan was, the further the plane flew. We could then draw a line of best fit to predict how far other planes would fly if we knew their wingspan.
